Information for Cialis Patients

Cialis, the brand name for the drug tadalafil, is a popular drug used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. It works by relaxing the muscles located at the base of the penis, and therefore allowed an increase in blood flow.

Although erectile dysfunction is by far the most popular use of Cialis, is also approved to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia. Men who have benign prostatic hyperplasia have, for a variety of reasons, an enlarged prostate gland. There may be other uses for Cialis, but these uses would need to be discussed with your physician.

Cialis is safely taken by millions of men every day. However, there are some cases in which you should not use, or should stop using, this drug. If you are allergic to tadalafil, or are using nitrate drugs for heart or chest problems, do not take Cialis. Nitrate drugs include nitroglycerin, isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate, nitrite or amyl nitrate. Most men do not experience side effects from Cialis, or if they do, they are mild. There are some serious side effects of Cialis. These include: tingling in chest, neck, jaw, or arms, or if you become nauseated or dizzy during sexual activities. If you experience these symptoms, stop using Cialis and contact your doctor right away. Similarly, if you have a painful or prolonged (more than four hours) erection, seek emergency medical care. An erection lasting more than four hours can cause permanent damage to your penis.

In some men, Cialis can cause sudden vision loss by decreasing the blood flow to your optic nerve. This is rare and most of the people affected were over 50 years of age, smoked, had diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, certain pre-existing eye conditions, or high blood pressure. It is unknown if Cialis is the cause of this problem. If you experience sudden vision loss, stop using Cialis and seek emergency medical attention. There are some things you should not do while taking Cialis. Consuming alcohol may cause certain side effects of Cialis to become worse. Grapefruit or its juice may cause potentially dangerous effects due to its interaction with Cialis. Speak with your physician before consuming grapefruit products.

Do not take other medications, such as Viagra or Levitra, that are prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction while using Cialis.

Cialis should not be taken more than once per day, and there should be 24 hours between doses.
